About the Programme

During your recovery from your cardiac event, the Cardiac Rehabilitation Team can offer advice and support and can answer any questions you may have.

The team cover Scarborough, Whitby, Ryedale and Pocklington areas.

Our aims are:
- to help you to be active and exercise safely
- to help you recognise and manage your symptoms
- to support you to make individual lifestyle changes
- to offer you advice and support to achieve the goals that are important to you.

Usually, you will be referred to the Cardiac Rehabilitation Team. Once we receive your referral we will contact you by telephone or letter.
However, if you are unsure about whether you have been referred, do not hesitate to contact us.
Please find our contact details below.

We will arrange an initial consultation appointment with you. This may be at home, in clinic or by telephone.
During your initial consultation we will discuss your cardiac event, review your current symptoms and treatment, discuss cardiovascular risk reduction and help you to find ways to achieve your goals.
We will offer you appropriate resources which may include the Heart Manual, British Heart Foundation information and signposting to other services. You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
We will arrange to contact you again to review your progress but would always encourage you to contact us sooner with any concerns.

At your initial appointment we will also discuss our Cardiac Rehabilitation exercise programmes.

We offer individualised exercise programmes for you to carry out at home with support from the Cardiac Rehabilitation Team.

We also offer group-based classes.
These exercise and education classes are for patients who prefer face-to-face contact in a group and who are able to attend the class every week.

Classes are held at:
Scarborough Rugby Club - Monday afternoons
Pocklington Health Centre - Tuesday mornings
Whitby Hospital - Thursday mornings
Malton Hospital - Friday mornings

What to expect
when you come

If you choose the home-based exercise programme we will arrange an individual appointment with you. We will focus on the goals you wish to achieve and how we can best support you, through activity and educational advice and life-style changes.
We will arrange to contact you regularly throughout your treatment to discuss and review your progress.

If you choose the group-based class we will ask you to attend an initial assessment. This lasts about one hour and will help determine what you wish to achieve from attending the class.

The classes are a combination of exercise and education.

You may choose to undertake a combination of both the home-programme and the group-based class.

How long does it take

This is individual to each person's needs and we will discuss this with you throughout your programme.

General information
