About the Programme

Our Cardiac Rehabilitation Programme is run by a team of specialist nurses and exercise professionals, with links to dieticians, pharmacists and clinical psychologists. It involves attending a once-weekly session of supervised exercise, health education sessions and relaxation.

Circuit-based Exercise class:
Under our guidance and based on your current fitness level and clinical condition, this 8-week programme will help you gradually and confidently return to a healthy level of activity and improve your fitness.

The exercise programme can be tailored to take into account other problems that might limit your ability to exercise.

Tai Chi Qigong Shibashi class:
Tai Chi Qigong Shibashi involves co-ordinated breathing, movement and awareness and is used for exericse, healing and meditation. Research has shown improvements in balance control and flexibility, and a reduction in the risk of falls. It can also help psychological well-being. During this 9-week course the movements can be performed seated or standing with equal benefit.

If you cannot exercise, you can still attend the education and relaxation sessions.

Education sessions:
Our health education sessions cover a number of topics such as living with and understanding heart disease, risk factors for heart disease, stress management, healthy eating, managing changes, and medications.

The aim of the sessions is to help you find out more about your condition and treatment so you can be more in control of your recovery.

Relaxation sessions:
Relaxation can help us manage prolonged stress which, in turn, has a number of health benefits such as lowering blood pressure and heart rate as well as promoting psychological well-being.
